Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth, Inc. (GPT) named as new Southeastern TeleHealth Resource Center
The Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth (GPT) has been named as one of four new TeleHealth Resource Centers in the U.S. by The Department of Health and Human Services.
The Southeastern TeleHealth Resource Center (SETRC) will be operated by Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth and will provide technical assistance to help health care organizations, networks, and providers implement cost-effective telehealth programs serving rural and medically underserved areas and populations. The program is designed for entities with a successful track record in helping to develop sustainable telehealth programs.
GPT has a longstanding and successful track record in providing technical assistance in the development of sustainable, cost-effective telehealth programs to serve the rural and medically underserved areas and populations in Georgia. GPT's success has been built on providing technical assistance and education to its network partners and has been recognized nationally for its robust, statewide network with 85 specialists serving patients in more than 100,000 encounters to date in 133 access points and is well positioned with the expertise and strong commitment it will take to establish and house the Southeastern TeleHealth Resource Center (SETRC)
The telehealth field has an urgently increasing demand for the ability to duplicate telehealth services and applications rapidly and efficiently because of the economic downturn in our nation, and also due to the exodus of physicians from the healthcare field due to the increasing regulations from CMS and decreasing reimbursement.
GPT joins the University of Arkansas, the University of Hawaii, and the University of Kansas in this prestigious award.

The grants, paid out of fiscal year 2010 funds, come from the Office of Rural Health Policy in HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Four TeleHealth Resource Center Grant Program awards average about $325,000 each. This award was announced on August 24, 2010.
