The Global Partnership for TeleHealth staff supports the nonprofit Blessed by a Brown Bag program to help the homeless and less fortunate within South Georgia. Below please find information on this initiative and how you can introduce it into your own community:
Blessed by a Brown Bag is a ministry that started when GPTH’s CEO Rena Brewer saw a need to reach out and assist the homeless population in South Georgia. Rena felt that not only could her community work offer physical nourishment, but it could offer spiritual nourishment as well. Because of this need, the Brown Bag Ministry was created.
How You Can Help
Always be prepared to help someone in need by having a “brown bag” of food in the back seat of the car. This bag must be durable and deliver food for the body and “food for the soul.” The ministry can provide you with a logo-ed waterproof “book bag”. The suggested contents include: nonperishable food items, bottles of water, socks, chapstick, hand wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste and a small bible.
You can get involved with the Brown Bag Ministry by ordering brown bags to carry and give to people in need or through direct donations to the Brown Bag Ministry. On average, each brown bag costs $3.
